It feels like winter has come. Me and J. went out to a small park that we discovered recently, it was rather sunny but it was very chilly so we didn't spend much time there and headed to her place to have some coffee & warm up those frozen hands ( I didn't think of taking gloves with me just yet, didn't expect it to be that cold).
It got rather cold in our place too since it's old and has no insulation whatsoever, I've started winter-proofing our flat. I bought a draught excluder for the gap that we have under the main door, storm guard "double glazing" film for our old single-glazing windows, which I have run out of! I really hope it will work..
I'm dreaming of winning the lottery or making an amazing career and retire before I'm thirty and move somewhere warm, as it's not very likely, I'm buying some more film for our windows tomorrow after work.
In other news, I've received my first local & organic vegetable box (I know, so hipster), which I hope will make me eat more vegetables and try new recipes as I'm bound to get vegetables that I don't normally eat, e.g. sprouts. In this week's box I've got various lettuces, cabbage, potatoes, a bunch of carrots, a bag of sprouts, a couple of onions, leeks and some greens which I don't even recognise... yeah!
off to cook dinner...

One evening when we were in Barcelona we stumbled upon this film that was on- La Cara Oculta or The Hidden Face. We watched it in Spanish, but the language barrier didn't stop us enjoying this film. Just watch it, you can easily find it with English subtitles. I'm not giving anything away about the plot.
I am quite disappointed with the foreign language film availability here in UK, they're hardly ever shown here & not many choices in world cinema section in HMV, they are mainly karate/kung fu fighting films or anime. I'm really after European cinema, on Amazon foreign DVDS are hugely over priced...I wanted to get Pot Luck 2- Russian Dolls, it's around £15.00, I'm not paying that kinda money for an old film!
Fortunately, my dear friend, who is Spanish, will lend me some Spanish films, great!

I thought I'll give Elementary a chance despite the surrounding controversy. Of course I'm biased,I love BBC Sherlock, it's a masterpiece (all hail Mofftiss), it's without a doubt my favourite show ever.
My verdict based on 1.5 episode (damn my internet connection) : it's not awful but it isn't brilliant either. What bothers me the most is that it seems they have no knowledge of the original Sherlock Holmes books, the first clue is in the title: based on the famous "Elementary , my Dear Watson!, a phrase that has never been uttered by Sherlock. The show doesn't feel very "Sherlocky", it's just like any other crime drama where the main character just happens to be named Sherlock Holmes. Absolutely no chemistry between Sherlock and Joanne, if Joanne wasn't on the show, I would hardly notice she's missing, doesn't seem to contribute much to the show. in my opinion.
There is no Mrs Hudson or Lestrade. Not sure if Mycroft has been on the screen (I do love Mark Gatiss in BBC's version) as I haven't seen all the available episodes.
The script is quite boring & dry, cinematography, what cinematography? Deductions not explained, although BBC Sherlock aren't always fully explained, but you can see Sherlock's thought process and how he comes up with his conclusions, in the Elementary, however, it seems Sherlock knows the answers because it's says so in the script. The deductions that ARE explained are quite..lame. You don't need to be Sherlock to come up with that!
Johnny Lee Miller isn't bad at all,I loved him as a creature in Frankenstein, but I don't think his Sherlock is that interesting to be honest but it might get better in the later episodes. but I'm sorry to say I'm not going to watch them.
All right, if you like cop/crime drama,I think it's more than adequate, but if you are more into Sherlock, you'd be better off watching House as it's a lot more Sherlocky than Elementary.

I've hardly been at home last week, dinner with friends every other evening, then I went to Preston on my first ever business trip. It took us 5 hours to get there, met lots of people, including the managing director of the company. Stayed at a Premier Inn (absolutely boring rooms, aren't they?), had dinner in a very cozy pub next door, but I didn't enjoy my vegetarian lasagne.
Yesterday me and friends J. & R. went to Cardiff, now I am back I realised BBC Sherlock is primarily filmed in Cardiff but I haven't recognised any of the sites but I wasn't looking for them either.
Here are a few pictures from the day:
I might upload a picture of me as well when I get it from R.
Generally a fun day, but very tiring as it took us 5 hours just to get there and even longer to come back due to road closures.
I should try to spend more time at home this week, catch up with housework and blogging.

I loved Barcelona, not sure if it was the sunshine, the heat or the relaxed atmosphere, but I loved it.
It was very warmth, around 27c and one day it got pretty hot reaching 34, so we spent that day mostly on the beach. The water was ever so clear
It was still early, there were hardly any people on the beach..not for long though
Went to La Rambla, which I was impressed by at all, but I loved the "labyrinth" of streets next to it, which we explored a few times during our stay in Barcelona.
It was quite easy to get lost and we couldn't find the vegan place that we saw during our first wandering around these narrow streets
We found this burger place near Placa del Mar (I think it was called Hot & Crusty or something like that) which we ate watching the sea and the tourists. The server had very good English which was quite a relief.
With my hair curled by the Meditereanian sea (ever so salty)
We stayed at a very nice hotel at Eixample (Hotel Europark- highly recommend!) so certain sights were just a few minutes walk away..
went to Montjuic.. didn't go on the cable car as I have fear of heights so we took the funicular and walked up on foot to the top which actually didn't take long and was very enjoyable.
Went to Park Guell ( if you go, just take metro not the bus, it's not that far from the station and there escalators to get you up the hill!)
and when it started raining, quite badly, but it still was warmth. We were soaked through so we had to come back to the hotel to change, when we left the metro, we found ourselves in the middle of demonstrations!
On our last day we encountered the celebrations of DÃa de la Hispanidad
and a bit more of the rain...
I would love to go back...and live there! Even though there were things that annoyed me a bit ( red/green traffic light?who cares! and all the mopeds...), I could easily live here... but not work as there none hah...
I stumbled upon Sherlock while watching TV in the hotel after a very long day, it was in Catalan. Sherlock's voice was too slow and monotonic, probably voiced by an older man but it was low so not a complete miss but it still sounded weird and the slowness took away a bit of Sherlock's magic. Sherlock should be soon shown in my home country or maybe have already been shown as I saw adverts on TV while I was at my parents', would love to see how it's in Lithuanian, but to be honest it can only work if they put subtitles as Benedict's voice is not something you want to miss...
Anyway, now I'm back I'll start learning Spanish, my dear M. will help as she's Spanish and I will help to help her with her English, great!

The company I work for held Team Challenge today which is part of "giving something back to community" & corporate social responsibility policy. We did a makeover to a charity funded centre for mentally challenged people. All South East region staff (over 50) have contributed by sourcing the materials needed and painting, glossing, varnishing and scrubbing the floors all day today. Most of the things that we used today for this makeover were donated by various companies and Tesco provided us with food. Local MP showed up just to see how we were doing.
The funniest moment was when I was painting along a window and unexpectedly saw a familiar face on the other side of the window, it took me a second to realise that it was a good acquaintance of mine , she was here helping out as she actually works for this charity.
I'm tired and I've still got paint in my hair on my skin and my clothes ruined, but the result is well worth it.

I've got a day off tomorrow and will be hunting for a christening gift for my friend's daughter and preparing the last bits for my trip. I really can't wait, I'm super excited and I hope we will have some nice weather there as it's been raining pretty much all week except today.
